About Yog-Kulam
Yoga, education and research
Yoga means union; Kulam means a centre of education and excellence, like a Guru-Kulam. Our name sums up what we set out to do.
Who we are
A centre of learning for yoga
Yog-Kulam uses ancient methods of learning to build knowledge of yoga. Our work is focused on education, training and research in the field of yoga.
Today we are working to bring ancient yoga into our education system, with the aim of supporting children’s all-round development. Over time many styles of yoga have developed, and we aim to bring them together under one roof.
Our aims
- To promote a deeper knowledge of yoga, and yoga as a way of life.
- To protect and preserve the authenticity of ancient yoga knowledge.
- To build communication and collaboration with organisations that have similar aims.
- To foster community cohesion.
What guides us
Vision, mission and plan
Vision
Yoga integrated into modern education for the all-round development of children, guiding each child to reach their full potential.
Mission
To bring together the experience of modern education and ancient yoga, and to teach the techniques and tools of yoga in the school system.
Plan
To serve schools and other places of learning by building children’s physical, mental and emotional strengths.
Our name
समत्वं योग उच्यते
The line on our logo comes from the Bhagavad Gita (2.48): samatvaṁ yoga ucyate, “yoga is balance of mind”. It reminds us that yoga is about steadiness and balance in everyday life, not only on the mat.
